Ruffle Shoulders

This delicate, vintage-inspired look—which decked the spring runways from Delpozo to Stella McCartney—is 2018’s answer to the bell sleeve. Try it with a long-sleeve minidress or a sculptural blouse and dress it down with a pair of straight-leg jeans.

Indie Wine Brands

Remember 2008, when craft beer was all the rage? Ten short years later, wine is following suit, thanks to younger, less stuffy brands like Omen Wine out of Oregon and Dreamcôte Wine Co. from California, which are releasing great small-batch products at affordable prices. (Oh, and did we mention the eye-catching labels and bottle design?) As for what varietals, let’s just say that sparkling verdejo is the new rosé.

Several Week-Long Vacations

See ya, weekend getaway. As self-care continues to take center stage, childless millennials are extending vacations anywhere from three weeks to three months, in order to fully immerse themselves in a new place or culture. More than just a vacation, these trips enable travelers to work remotely, whether in a rented apartment or co-working space.

Team-Based Workouts

Blame it on the spin class group ride, but in the new year, a team-like atmosphere is definitely coming to a gym near you. Studios like NYC’s Swerve Fitness (an indoor cycling studio where you and your squad race for points) and Throwback Fitness (which mimics your high-school P.E. class) have been huge in big cities for months now, making them primed for a cross-country takeover. Sorry, introverts.

Colorful Kitchens

This isn’t to say that matte black and stainless steel are going anywhere, only that we’re pleased to see designers turning to green cabinets, speckled backsplashes and bright red ovens when thinking about the most workhorse room in the house.

Swedish Death Cleaning

Three years after Marie Kondo’s Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, “Swedish death cleaning” is the decluttering craze that’s taking messy households by storm. Minimalist and morbid, it centers on the reality that when we die, we usually leave a mess behind for loved ones to sort through. To avoid this burden, Magnusson thinks we should practice “death cleaning,” or not collecting things we don’t want others to deal with. Here’s how to do it.

Curtain Bangs

As of last month, Pinterest searches for long, middle-parted fringe (or curtain bangs) were up 100 percent. Celebs like Alexa Chung, Halle Berry and Felicity Jones have all been rocking the cool, '60s-inspired 'do recently, and we totally want in on the face-flattering fun in the new year.

Plandids

Selfies are so 2017. The newest trend is the “plandid,” or carefully planned candid moment. Think: Laughing at your iced coffee like it told you a joke or strutting fashionably across the street to meet an imaginary friend. Essentially, you ask someone to take a picture, then pretend you didn’t know a picture was coming. Love it or hate it, it’s definitely coming for your Instagram feed.
