A major £258,000 refurbishment has started on a pub in Rugby. The Paddox pub in Hill Morton, which recently closed, is set to reopen at the end of August as a 'traditional pub' at the heart of the community.

The pub, which previously operated as a bar with an Indian food offering, will see 15 new jobs created. Plans include showing live sports, hosting quizzes and open mic nights, regular entertainment, as well as establishing darts and pool teams to play in local leagues.

The renovation will include a seating area for 64 people, and zoning of the interior to create a lounge and dining space, drinking and sports areas. The new sports areas will have a pool table and darts, and six high-definition TVs throughout so screens can be viewed from all vantage points.

There will also be new fabrics, colours, carpet, and herringbone effect flooring to create a more 'warm and welcoming atmosphere'. The exterior will be 'smartened up' with new signage and festoon lighting adding to the ambiance, plus external seating for 50 people to double the existing capacity and plentiful parking.

The menu at The Paddox will comprise traditional pub favourites including Sunday roasts. Bosses say the dishes will be 'good quality' but 'reasonably priced' and there will be a special menu for children. Food will be available throughout the week with tailored promotions for different days.

The drinks offer will include a variety of beers from Amstel, Carling, and Birra Moretti to Beavertown and cask ale. There will also be cider, wine, an extensive range of spirits, zero alcohol, soft drinks, and fresh coffee.

Investment Manager at Star Pubs, Lee Dishington, said: "The Paddox will reopen with new management in time for the new school year. It is ideally located for families, as it is situated on a major junction close to Ashlawn secondary school as well as near to The Paddox Primary School and Hilmorton primary school."

The refurbishment at The Paddox is part of a £39m investment that Star Pubs and Bars is making in 621 pubs this year.
