Rula Lenska Charged With Drink-Driving

Former EastEnders actress Rula Lenska has been charged with drink-driving after reportedly flipping her car with her three-year-old grandson inside.

Her Mini is said to have clipped a parked car and rolled onto its side in the middle of the road in Twickenham, southwest London.

The 68-year-old star was arrested after a breath test.

She was charged and released on bail, and is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court next month.

Up to 15 people raced to help following the incident at 7pm on Monday, The Sun reported.

Witness Paul Mayhew, 54, told the newspaper: "The Mini hit the back of another car, pushing it onto the kerb, and it ended up on its side.

"A lot of people stopped and tried to help. As a result of the accident, the Mini's ignition was killed, the doors were locked and the windows were powered up, so we couldn't get in. It took quite a long time to get the woman calm.

"There was a child in a car seat in the back. Once we got them out we rolled the car back on its wheels. The woman was very shaky. The child was fine."

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: "Rula Lenska was charged on Tuesday, 23 February with a drink drive offence, namely driving a motor vehicle above the legal limit.

"She will appear on bail at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 10 March."

Lenska, who has had a long TV career, was married to Minder star Dennis Waterman from 1987 to 1998.

She took part in the 2006 edition of Celebrity Big Brother, and was seen feeding George Galloway milk while he pretended to be a cat.
