Amber Stevens West’s skincare routine is a paired-down ritual for sensitive, hyperpigmented skin.

Best known for her roles in Greek, The Carmichael Show and Ghosted, the actress now leads Starz’s Run The World. The Harlem-set comedy about Black female friendship premiered this May and currently has a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“If you’re still trying to figure out what your skincare routine should look like,” West explains, “I found that it’s really helpful to stick to one brand for a while. When they’re developing all these products, they’re developing them all together to be used together.”

West believes mixing and matching lines can make it harder to figure out which products are working. So she sticks to two tried and true brands she trusts for her routine.

Step 1: Cleanse with Eve Lom Gel Balm Cleanser

“It’s really moisturizing,” West says. “Kind of almost feels like you’re putty a creamy, shiny, glistening vaseline all over your face.”

She uses a damp cloth to wet her face, then applies the balm with her hands before wiping it off with a wet towel.

Step 2: Tone with Epicuren Discovery Protein Mist Enzyme Toner

With just two drops left, the enzyme toner is one of West’s favorites.

“It rehydrates your skin and sets it for whatever you’re going to be doing next,” she says.

Step 3: Apply facial oil with Goldfaden M.D. Botanical Cell Oil

“This is a brand that I really love. They’re great for sensitive skin,” she says.

West’s trick for using facial oil is moderation. A lesson she learned from experience.

“I thought I couldn’t use facial oils and I thought I was breaking out in rashes a lot when I was using it,” she explains. “But I was using way too much.”

She pours exactly one drop onto her palms, then pats it into her skin.

Step 4: Moisturize with Goldfaden M.D. Vital Boost Moisturizer or Eve Lom Moisture Cream

“My skin has the tendency to scar really easily. Something like this helps with that,” she says of the vital boost moisturizer.

West uses the Eve Lom moisture cream when she wants something a little heavier.

“If I’m gonna wear makeup, I’m probably gonna wear the lighter one,” while the Eve Lom is for a “light makeup day,” she explains.

She applies the Eve Lom moisturizer to her face and neck since she’s skipping makeup today.

“For many years I forgot to put it on my neck,” West says. “Now I have wrinkles on my neck. That’s being in your thirties. If you’re young still and you don’t have wrinkles on your neck, don’t neglect it. It’s never too late to start.”

Step 5: Moisturize lips with Chapstick Skin Protectant

West is currently pregnant and her lips have become a bit dehydrated.

“I’m addicted to regular ole Chapstick brand chapstick,” she says. “I have one in every purse, in my house, in my car, next to my bed.”
