Russell Brand has turned psychiatrist in an attempt to find answers to why Love Island's Georgia thinks she’s so loyal, but isn’t.

The comedian, 43, lamented his move from politics to Love Island as he gave his take on Georgia’s decision to split from Sam in order to stay in the villa.

Brand turned to psychiatry to explain the “G Complex”, saying it is difficult for the 20-year-old to face having ideas she holds about herself challenged.

“What this is called in psychiatric terms is an encounter with the self,” he said of her need to keep convincing people she is loyal. “Something that’s previously been concealed is being exposed by circumstance.

“She talks continuously about her loyalty, but we’ve got to remember this is an 18-year-old kid. In the real world this is someone who is very young [and] very, very inexperienced. What is being challenged is people’s ideas about themselves.”

He continued: “A lot of psychiatrists say ‘we think we are what we think we are but what we actually are are what we act’ – the decisions we make and what we do.”

He said Georgia and Sam choosing to stay on in the villa apart rather than leaving together means “being on Love Island aka being famous and being on telly means more than being together” which he believes is “a hard thing to be exposed to”.

He continued: “That’s a hard thing to repackage to yourself. It’s the ultimate test of loyalty.”

Brand wrapped up the analysis by joking about his own appearance, asking: “But, can you really ever trust a man who’s got fuzz coming out the side of his head, and this beard and that t-shirt?”

Fans praised his analysis with many hailing it “spot on”.

One tweeted: “Never thought I would one day agree with Russell, but this analysis is bang on the money #loveisland.”

Another wrote: “Straight up #realtalk #areweready for #thetruth??”

A third agreed, writing: “Laura is the only Loyal one on that show and I have never heard her say that she is Loyal once.”

Love Island is on ITV2, tonight at 9pm
