Russell Brand SLAMMED as 'sexist' after revealing he doesn't change his children's nappies

Russell Brand has come under fire on social media after admitting that he doesn’t change his children’s nappies.

The comedian and author said that he took a more “mystical” and “reflective” attitude to parenting in a new interview with the Times.

He also claimed that his wife Laura Gallacher “wouldn’t” leave him with their two daughters for 24 hours as she “respects and cares for their safety too much.”

“I am very, very focused on the mystical connotations of Mabel’s beauty and grace,” he told the paper. “Not so good on the nappies and making sure they eat food.

“When I looked after Mabel on her own, she dropped two social classes in an hour. In no time at all, we’re in a coffee shop, she’s just got a nappy on and she’s covered in stuff because I’m not willing to fight any of the battles.”

The 43-year-old described Gallacher’s ability to “sustain and maintain domesticity” as “astonishing,” but said that he “didn’t have much experience of how to organise domesticity.”

“I’m still of a romantic and reflective and, possibly, to give it it’s proper name, a religious disposition. That’s my world view,” he said.

When asked outright about his involvement in the day-to-day parenting of his children, he responded: “Laura does all of it. It turns out that she is extremely well versed in the nuances and complexities of child-rearing.”

Social media users were quick to call out the comedian for his comments, with some describing his views on gender roles as “sexist.”

“Men who position themselves as above the mundane realities of housework and childcare can GET IN THE BIN,” writer and campaigner Caroline Criado Perez wrote. “You are not better than us and I don’t give a s*** how much you wrap it up in charming ‘oh I’m just a hopeless man” or, as here, ‘I’m far too sensitive.’”

“Does Russell Brand think that hands-on parents *aren’t* sensitive & awake & aware? They’re pretty much three of the most essential characteristics of any carer,” another Twitter user wrote.

“Piers Morgan’s ‘real men don’t wear papooses’ and Russell Brand’s ‘I’m too sensitive to do any practical childcare’ are just the same outdated stereotype of men thinking raising kids is woman’s work,” another chimed in, urging fathers to “do your share, dudes.”

“Basically Laura has 3 children,” one commentator joked.

Standard Online has contacted Brand’s representatives for comment.
