Russell Wilson hints at uncertain offseason: 'I hope it’s not my last game [in Seattle]'

Russell Wilson knows his future with the Seattle Seahawks is uncertain. Wilson, who was the subject of trade rumors last year, acknowledged as much Thursday, saying he hopes Week 17 is "not my last game [in Seattle]."

Wilson brought that up unprompted after he was asked whether he believes he can win three more Super Bowls with the Seahawks. Wilson acknowledged he might not be with the team long enough to make that happen.

Wilson was the subject of trade rumors last offseason. There were reports suggesting Wilson requested a trade, which Wilson denied. There were also reports Wilson gave the Seahawks a list of three teams to which he would like to be traded, which Wilson confirmed. It was Wilson's way of saying he didn't technically demand a trade, but he didn't mind leaving either.

Wilson's frustration reportedly stemmed from his lack of protection. The Seahawks' offensive line has been a problem since Wilson joined the NFL. No quarterback has been sacked more than Wilson since 2012, his rookie season. Wilson also reportedly got into a heated exchange with coaches last season, in which he allegedly stormed out of a meeting.

At 5-10, the Seahawks are in line for their worst season since Wilson was drafted. It could be the best time for the two sides to call it quits.

A finger injury complicates things, but Wilson should still have plenty of value if the Seahawks make him available. Wilson is an elite quarterback who has made seven Pro Bowls and led his team to a Super Bowl win.

Even with poor protection throughout his career, Wilson has 285 touchdowns against 86 interceptions. He's also a threat as a runner, with over 4,500 career rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. Wilson still has two years left on his contract, and is due $19 million in 2022 and $21 million in 2023.

The Seahawks would likely demand multiple first-round picks in exchange for Wilson. Franchise quarterbacks rarely hit the market, and bust rates for first-round quarterbacks are still high. Picking up a player like Wilson doesn't guarantee a team will instantly make the playoffs — look at the Seahawks this year — but it does vastly increase a team's chances.

Finding a team willing to give up multiple first-round picks could be a challenge, but Wilson is one of the few quarterbacks worth the price.
