Russian Shelling of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant 'Risky' for Europe, Zelensky Says

Russian forces fired at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, southeastern Ukraine, twice on August 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the government-run nuclear enterprise said.

Energoatom, Ukraine’s state nuclear power enterprise, said on August 5 that Russian forces had twice attacked the nuclear power plant, damaging key buildings and creating the risk of hydrogen leaks.

Zelensky called the shelling an “act of terror” and called for increased sanctions on Moscow in a video posted to his Facebook page. Credit: Volodymyr Zelensky via Storyful
