Russian Spacecraft Streaks Into Orbit in Timelapse Taken From International Space Station

Timelapse footage captured by German astronaut Alexander Gerst on the International Space Station shows the Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-11 soaring out of Earth’s atmosphere on December 3.

The craft, carrying NASA’s Anne McClain, David Saint-Jacques of the Canadian Space Agency and Oleg Konenenko of Roscosmos, successfully docked at the International Space Station on Monday, December 3 after launching from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome.

“The essence of spaceflight, in a timelapse showing the Soyuz MS-11 launch,” Gerst wrote in his caption accompanying the video. "I still can’t comprehend that there are humans riding on the top of this lone white streak into the great black open. " Credit: ESA/Alexander Gerst via Storyful
