Blade Runner 2049 will be with us in just over two weeks but one cast member from the original movie is not entirely convinced.

Rutger Hauer, who played replicant Roy Batty in Ridley Scott's original sci-fi masterpiece, spoke exclusively to Digital Spy and voiced his concern.

"It surprises me that they revisited it at all," he said. "It doesn't matter if it's right after or 10 years later... I don't know what that's about.

"I'll see the movie and see what it is. I think I know what [the story] is and I'll be surprised if it wasn't... and it would be probably a nice surprise!"

This isn't the only one of his movies that's been revisited – The Hitcher was also remade in 2007 with Sean Bean taking over the eponymous role. But Hauer's not sure about the whole remake/reboot thing in general.

"You can look at it as a compliment, but I still have a hard time [with it]," he said. "Do I need a compliment like that? I don't think I do.

"It's a free market – people can do it if they buy the rights. But if something is really good, I would never try it, because it's like you're digging a hole for yourself, and why would you want to do that?"

Hauer won't be reprising his role in Blade Runner 2049, though Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, joined by Ryan Gosling as Officer K. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve who made Arrival and Prisoners (so it might actually be good), with Ridley Scott exec producing.

Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 5.
