Ruth Bader Ginsburg praised for wearing sparkly high heels: 'Swooning over those shoes'

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is being praised for making an eye-catching fashion statement while presenting an award for female leadership.

On Friday, the Supreme Court justice wore silver glitter high heels to present the inaugural Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.

In a photo from the event posted to Instagram by Martha Stewart, the 86-year-old can be seen wearing a pair of cropped black pants, white tights and the sparkly heels to present the award to philanthropist Agnes Gund.

Since sharing the photo, the justice’s outfit has prompted comparisons to Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz.

RBG is Dorothy reincarnated with her slippers,” one person commented on the photo, while another said: “She definitely knows she’s not in Kansas anymore.”

Others simply praised the octogenarian for the fun, unexpected look, including CNN White House correspondent Kate Bennett, who shared a collage of the justice’s outfit with the caption: “Yes. All the yes.”

“Fabulous!! Look at the justice’s shoes! Love it. Girl has style,” someone else commented.

Another person said: “Swooning over those shoes!”

This is not the first time the Supreme Court justice’s fashion choices have been coveted. In January, a limited-edition re-release of Ginsburg’s “dissent” necklace from Banana Republic sold out before it even went on sale.

In 2014, Ginsburg described the necklace, which she’d reportedly received in a gift bag at Glamour’s Women of the Year gala in 2012, as her “dissenting collar” because it “looks fitting for dissents”.
