Welsh actress Ruth Jones has resurrected her Gavin & Stacey character, Nessa Jenkins, for a new video signalling the end of her time in Sister Act: The Musical at London’s Dominion Theatre. In a video posted to the show’s official social media channels, the 57-year-old from Bridgend announced that she would perform her final show as Mother Superior in August.

Ruth (as Nessa) said: “Oh, what's occurrin’? The question was rhetorical. We all know what's occurrin’. I’m having a cracking time in the convent, I’m not gonna lie. I've been getting plenty of me time, and you knows what I mean by that. But unfortunately, I gotta go back to the slots.

“Come August all the tourists will be down Barry. It'll be chaos down there. Mayhem on the fruities. So August 3, I'm leaving the convent and if you wants to see me before then then get your a**e down the Dominion. They got tickets. I'm sure they have. I'm not promising, but just try it out at the box office. Do what any normal person would do.”

Following the end of Ruth’s time on Sister Act, she will start filming the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. Earlier this year, following much speculation, Ruth’s co-writer James Corden confirmed that the popular BBC series would be coming back for one final episode.

The show was last on our screens in 2019. The end of the last special saw Nessa propose to James’ character Smithy. Do you think he’ll say ‘yes’? Let us know in the comments.

Rob Brydon, who portrays Uncle Bryn West in the show, has confirmed that filming on the final special will commence at the end of the summer. The episode is set to broadcast on Christmas Day.

All of the series regulars, including Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, are expected to return. Gavin & Stacey is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
