Ruth Langsford has spoken out for the first time since the shock announcement of her split from Eamonn Holmes after 14-years of marriage.

The Loose Women veteran, 64, took to Instagram over the weekend sharing a video of herself strolling in the sun with her beloved dog, Maggie. She then uploaded another affectionate clip of Maggie spending quality time with 'granny', Ruth's mum Joan.

Ruth captioned the clip: "Enjoying the little bit of sunshine we got today," followed by, "Bit of grandma love."

Rumours of a shock announcement swirled on Saturday before their representatives officially confirmed the sad news, the Mirror reports.

The collective statement read, "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Fans had been speculating whether or not the couple, who co-hosted on ITV This Morning for years, were having marriage problems after it was noted that they had not been pictured together for months.

Their well-documented disagreements and altercations, often playing out in front of ITV cameras during their tenure on the daytime programme, were a signature aspect of their relationship but the TV duo always insisted they came from a place of affection.

The news of the split is bound to shock fans who saw the couple as having one of the most genuine and long-lasting marriages on TV.

A source close to them attributed the separation to "work commitments which took them in different directions".

The insider told The Sun: "They are determined to stay friends and keep things amicable."

Their relationship was put to the test in 2020 when they were unexpectedly dropped from This Morning.

While Ruth remained with their previous employer, joining the Loose Women panel, Eamonn expressed his discontent with his former bosses after switching to GB News.

Eamonn has openly criticised his departure from his longstanding position, claiming he was let go 'without warning' and that ITV executives were 'never kind' to him.

Blasting his former employees, he said: "They tossed me out of the door and didn't care where I was going."

In the past few years, Eamonn, now 64, has had to balance his television career with a personal struggle against chronic pain, often being seen using a wheelchair or crutches as his condition worsened.

This week, Ruth publicly discussed how Eamonn's health issues have affected their marriage for the first time.

Ruth Langsford opened up to Woman's Weekly about the challenges they've faced, revealing, "I don't know how much Eamonn's mobility will improve. We live in hope," during a conversation that came at a delicate time.

She continued, "He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation - and there are millions of carers in this country - it isn't always easy. It's testing but we manage as a family."

Ruth also reflected on the importance of health, saying, "I look at Eamonn, who's had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is."

The couple share their son Jack, aged 22, and Eamonn has three children from his previous marriage: Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and Rebecca, 33. Ruth hasn't shared anything about her husband on social media since July 2022.

Meanwhile, Eamonn raised eyebrows this week when he posted a photo with former page 3 model Linda Lusardi, which led fans to question, "So where is Ruth? ".

Ruth and Eamonn's love story began in 1997 after being introduced by friends, leading to a long courtship before tying the knot in 2010.

When asked about the secret to their lasting relationship, Ruth emphasised the importance of respect and humour: "I think always respect, mutual respect. And we laugh a lot.

"I think love and lust and everything's wonderful at the start of a relationship. But've got to have that connection as friends where you feel comfortable with each other."

In April, Ruth Langsford openly discussed the possibility of her husband Eamonn Holmes leaving her for another woman during a segment on Loose Women.

She confessed to her co-panelists that she would be more devastated if Eamonn left her for a woman her own age.

Ruth expressed: "See I think, people go, 'Oh, you'd hate it if you were dumped for a younger woman'. I go, 'No, I would hate it because...' then I could do the whole cliche thing, 'Oh, Eamonn is such a cliche, he's going with a 25-year-old, how sad.'

"But then I think 'No, the worst thing for me is if he went off with someone the same age'. I think that is harder than being dumped for someone younger. That's my worst fear."

Linda Robson quickly dismissed Ruth's worry, assuring her she had 'nothing to worry about'.

Ruth has been candid on the daytime show about her most challenging times in her marriage to Eamonn, disclosing that she had taken off her wedding ring during some of their major arguments.

The mother revealed that this harsh action had lost its impact in recent disputes as she found it difficult to remove her jewellery in the heat of the moment.

Ruth explained: "The thing is it can take the momentum away because my rings don't come off easily so if I was having a row and was like, 'Right, well, anyway, I'm really angry now...'"

She then demonstrated to viewers the difficulty of removing her tightly fitted wedding ring.
