Rumours of a surprise announcement started swirling on Saturday, before the couple's representatives finally confirmed the sad news. The joint statement read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Worries had been mounting for the popular pair, who had been co-hosts on ITV 's This Morning for many years, after fans noticed that they hadn't been seen together in several months. The couple was well-known for their on-air squabbles and disagreements, which often unfolded in front of the ITV cameras during their stint on the daytime programme, but they always maintained that their disputes stemmed from a place of love, reports the Mirror.

The news of the split is expected to shock fans who saw the couple's marriage as one of the most genuine and long-lasting in the TV world. A source close to them attributed the separation to "work commitments which took them in different directions".
