Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes announced the bombshell news of their separation on Saturday May 25, after being married for 14 years.

Rumours had began to circulate in recent times as the TV couple hadn't been spotted together for several months, with Eamonn now said to be 'furious' about their relationship's very public end.

The news came to light when a joint statement from their representatives was shared, which read: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

However, it's alleged that they actually split up more than one year ago with Eamonn wanting to keep things private in order to work on their relationship, the Mirror reports.

Fans of the couple, who presented This Morning together, had been trying to work out what was going on behind the scenes as they hadn't appeared together in a long time. Friends now say Eamonn was 'struggling' with the news and wasn't keen to make it public.

The joint statement is said to have been arranged by Ruth, 64, with Eamonn 'refusing' to partake. "Ruth can do what she wants but keep me out of it," the presenter is said to have told his friends.

It's reported that Eamonn spent 'months' trying to save their marriage and their separation has 'very much been orchestrated by Ruth' who was 'determined' to walk away.

According to the Mail On Sunday, one source who knows the Irish star said that Eamonn would become 'very angry indeed' when probed on the truth of his marriage.

"His language became really quite rude. He was struggling to accept it." Another source added: "Eamonn's preferred way was not to tell anyone. Deep down he knew it couldn't carry on but he was kind of sticking his head in the sand. He is very upset indeed."

Eamonn is now preparing to speak about his divorce for the first time during his GB News appearance on Monday May 26. He is said to be willing to discuss this huge life update, as his fans will be keen to know.

“Eamonn is always frank on camera and knows it will be odd for him to discuss the day’s news without mentioning his split so he’ll say a few words," a source told The Sun. "He is putting on a brave face and will be the true professional he always is. Focusing on work will be a welcome distraction."

The couple's representatives have been contacted by the Mirror.
