Ruth Langsford has spoken out for the first time since the news of her split from Eamonn Holmes after 14 years.

The 64 year old Loose Women presenter took to Instagram on Sunday, sharing a video of herself enjoying a sunny walk with her beloved dog, Maggie. She then posted another heartwarming clip of Maggie spending quality time with Ruth's mother, Joan.

"Enjoying the little bit of sunshine we got today," she captioned the post, adding, "Bit of grandma love."

Rumours of an impending announcement started swirling on Saturday, before the couple's representatives finally confirmed the sad news. The joint statement read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Worries had been mounting for the popular pair, who were long-standing co-hosts on ITV's This Morning, after fans noticed they hadn't been seen together in recent months. Known for their on-air squabbles during their stint on the daytime programme, the couple always maintained that their disagreements stemmed from a place of love, reports the Mirror.

The news of the couple's separation is likely to shock fans who have always seen them as one of the most genuine and long-lasting couples on TV. A source close to the pair attributed the split to 'work commitments that took them in different directions'.

"They are determined to stay friends and keep things amicable," they revealed to The Sun.

Their relationship was put to the test in 2020 when they were abruptly dropped from This Morning. While Ruth remained with their previous employer as part of the Loose Women panel, Eamonn chose a different path and didn't hold back in his criticism of his former bosses after moving to GB News.

Eamonn alleged he was dismissed from his long-standing role 'without warning' and accused ITV executives of being 'never kind' to him. "They tossed me out of the door and didn't care where I was going," Eamonn criticised.

In recent years, the 64 year old has balanced his TV career with his struggle with chronic pain and has been seen in a wheelchair and using crutches as his health has worsened. This week, Ruth opened up about the effect of Eamonn's health issues on their marriage for the first time.

Speaking to Woman's Weekly, Ruth revealed the challenges they've faced as a family. "I don't know how much Eamonn's mobility will improve. We live in hope," she shared during the conversation.

"He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation - and there are millions of carers in this country - it isn't always easy. It's testing but we manage as a family."

Ruth added: "I look at Eamonn, who's had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is."

The couple shares a son, Jack, aged 22, while Eamonn has three children from a previous marriage: sons Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and daughter Rebecca, 33. Ruth has been quiet about her husband on social media since July 2022.

Meanwhile, Eamonn recently caused a stir online after posting a photo with former page 3 model Linda Lusardi, which led fans to question, 'So where is Ruth?'.

Ruth and Eamonn first crossed paths in 1997, introduced by mutual friends, and dated for over a decade before tying the knot in 2010.

When asked about the secret to their long-lasting relationship, Ruth explained: "I think always respect, mutual respect. And we laugh a lot. I think love and lust and everything's wonderful at the start of a relationship. But've got to have that connection as friends where you feel comfortable with each other."

In April, Ruth Langsford candidly discussed the possibility of her husband Eamonn Holmes leaving her for another woman during a segment on Loose Women. She confessed to her co-hosts that she would be more devastated if Eamonn left her for a woman their own age.

Ruth expressed: "See I think, people go, 'Oh, you'd hate it if you were dumped for a younger woman'. I go, 'No, I would hate it because...' then I could do the whole cliche thing, 'Oh, Eamonn is such a cliche, he's going with a 25-year-old, how sad.' But then I think 'No, the worst thing for me is if he went off with someone the same age'. I think that is harder than being dumped for someone younger. That's my worst fear," she added. Linda Robson quickly dismissed Ruth's worry, assuring her she had 'nothing to worry about'.

Ruth has been open on the daytime show about the low points in her marriage to Eamonn, admitting that she had taken off her wedding ring during some of their most heated arguments.

The mother-of-one revealed that the harsh action had lost its impact in recent disputes as she found it difficult to remove her jewellery in the heat of the moment. Ruth explained: "The thing is it can take the momentum away because my rings don't come off easily so if I was having a row and was like, 'Right, well, anyway, I'm really angry now...'" She then demonstrated to viewers the struggle of removing her tightly fitted wedding ring.

The Mirror has contacted representatives for Eamonn and Ruth for a response to this story.
