Ruth Langsford is set to become the primary owner of the cherished family dog she shares with Eamonn Holmes, as their divorce proceedings intensify. The Loose Women presenter and the GB News host ended their marriage earlier this year after she discovered messages he had sent to another woman.

Since then, the fate of their collie cross, Maggie, has been a focal point of their separation. A friend revealed: "Eamonn has resigned himself to the fact that he will lose ownership of Maggie. He loves that dog with all his heart but it looks like Ruth will be the dog's main carer. When things settle, he'll hopefully be able to see Maggie from time to time."

The pair, who also share a son named Jack, have had Maggie for 14 years. Eamonn recently addressed concerns about Maggie's health, assuring fans that despite her age and recent operation, she was still in "better shape" than him amid his own health issues.

The former This Morning presenter said: "A lot of you wondering about Maggie. She's had an op to remove a growth. All well. Not bad for a 14-year-old! In fact, she's in better shape than me." Ruth also provided an update on their pet's condition, saying: "Maggie had a little wart removed this morning under sedation so she's feeling a bit sorry for herself this afternoon! Lots of TLC from Mummy required.", reports the Express.

Last week, Express Online reported that the couple are now communicating solely through their lawyers. Ruth has enlisted the services of a top-notch lawyer, Catherine Costley, who previously worked under the nation's leading divorce attorney, "Steel Magnolia" Baroness Fiona Shackleton. Shackleton famously represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana.

Ruth turned to Costley several months ago as she aims to finalise her 14-year marriage to Eamonn with an appropriate financial settlement.

Over the weekend, Eamonn was spotted getting cosy with his new love interest, Katie Alexander, during a romantic cruise. The pair were seen enjoying Ibiza Town's nightlife on Friday. Their Saturday was spent meandering through the capital's quaint cobbled streets on a shopping excursion. Katie, a 42 year old divorced mum, has been noticed driving a swanky £50,000 Mercedes and donning pricey jewellery.

Eamonn has reportedly hired Rachael Somerset, a solicitor from the London law firm Level, to begin his divorce proceedings off-camera. Following their separation, Ruth has continued to reside in their shared £3.5 million Surrey mansion with five bedrooms, while Eamonn has since relocated to a nearby apartment.

At the TRIC Awards in June, Eamonn opened up about his break up with Ruth, saying, "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."
