Ruth Langsford has shared the heartbreaking reason behind her recent weight loss as she addressed how she had slimmed down in recent months.

Ruth, 64, said her divorce from fellow TV presenter Eamonn Holmes may have contributed to her weight loss ahead of turning 65 later this year. She also suggested it could be linked to her potentially coming to the end of her menopause.

Speaking to Woman & Home magazine, Ruth said: “I have lost weight. Divorce obviously has something to do with it but I also went for a hormone check and rebalance, which helped. It could also hopefully mean that I’m coming to the end of menopause.”

Ruth and Eamonn, 65, announced last year they had decided to split after 14 years of marriage together. The pair, who got married in 2010, announced their split last year and share a 22-year-old son called Jack.

A spokesperson for the pair at the time of their divorce said they had “confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing” and that they were “determined to stay friends and keep things amicable”.

Speaking in greater detail about the divorce to Woman & Home magazine, Ruth admitted things had not been easy on her since the end of the relationship. She said: “Relationship breakdowns are very difficult, but you deal with it and have to move on.

“You can let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice. I’m not delighted my marriage is over, but I’ve accepted it.”

She added: “I’m trying to now embrace the fact I’m single and can make choices that are just about me. Divorce is very painful.”

Alongside discussing her divorce, Ruth also talked about her own fears about developing Alzheimer’s Disease, the most common form of dementia, in the frank interview.

She said: “I'm a bit head in the sand about Alzheimer's. Both my parents have had it, I know what it entails and it horrifies me.”

Ruth is one of several celebrities to be concerned about their risk of dementia as they make their way through their 60s. Last year, farmer Jeremy Clarkson told The Times his reduced hearing ability was giving him cause for concern about his risk of the disease.

The former Top Gear presenter said: “This has been going on for 12 years and, being a tolerant sort of guy, I've coped. But I was told after my most recent medical that hearing loss will double the chance of me catching dementia. Maybe it's already happening. That would explain why I can never find my spectacles.”
