Local schools have been competing for glory in the Rutherglen Landemer Cup, which has been revived to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Landemer Day.

All 10 local primary schools were invited to take part in the legendary Rutherglen football tournament, with seven taking up the option to compete at Fernhill Community Centre.

The first round draw was made on April 24 by the Committee members of the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council at their monthly meeting for the 9-a-side competition.

The first-round ties saw Calderwood Primary School defeat Burgh Primary School 5-0, with Bankhead Primary easing Spittal Primary aside 7-0, before a hotly contested affair where St Anthony’s Primary scraped by St Columbkille's 3-2.

The semi-final draw - made at Fernhill Bingo on May 9 - saw Bankhead reach the final after beating Cathkin 8-3, alongside Calderwood, who won 2-0 against St Anthony’s last Thursday.
