Rutherglen tree surgery business prove they can cut it with the best as they scoop top award
A Rutherglen tree surgeon’s business that’s blossomed over the last few years proved it was a cut above at this year’s Scottish Home Improvement Awards.
GGM Tree Surgery and Landscaping walked away with the title of Scotland’s best landscaping company.
The company was founded by 28-year-old Jordan Grant who was delighted at scooping the award, which follows on from its Best Tree Surgeon and Arboricultural Business Award from Scottish Enterprise in 2023.
They were among thousands of companies from across the country who staked their claim to be the best in their respective fields.
Jordan, who is from Eastfield said: “I’m delighted for all the guys, the pride they take in their work has paid dividends and we’re getting noticed.
“It’s an amazing achievement for a wee company from Rutherglen/Cambuslang. We’ve built the business up from having a £250 van to having nine vans on the road.
“We have nine permanent staff and depending on the contracts we get in we can have up to 35 guys working for us.
“The business has been running for five years and originally started it to look after my mum and nanny. My mum has mental health problems.
“We came from nothing, it was like a Laurel and Hardy cut and run at first and we were going about Cambuslang with a lawn mower and a strimmer, and it just went from there. It’s been quite a journey.
“We have three different departments, luxury landscaping in Glasgow and surrounding areas; professional tree surgeons covering the whole of Scotland; and estate management, which includes looking after 600 homes for North Lanarkshire Council. But predominantly our work is domestic.”

Jordan is also doing his bit to give young people from troubled backgrounds an opportunity to carve a career for themselves.
He continued: “Because of my own experience, I’ve had a bit of a push to bring in young guys and girls who have had troubled backgrounds, and give them a chance to do something with their lives.
“Sometimes that’s all people need – an opportunity. We set up South Lanarkshire’s first private-sector tree surgery apprenticeship. You can leave school and be a joiner or a plumber so we thought why can’t we do this for tree surgery. So we teamed up with Skills Development Scotland to get one of our boys on the framework.”
