Ryan Gosling laughed during the Oscars Best Picture mix-up as he was ‘relieved’ that no one had been hurt at the ceremony.

The Best Actor-nominee couldn’t stop giggling as La La Land was mistakenly named the winner because he was convinced there had been some kind of medical emergency.

“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt,” Gosling said at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Speaking about his reaction for the first time, Gosling admitted that his laughter had more to do with relief than embarrassment.

“I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head,” he said.

“And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

The 36-year-old went on to say that there were no hard feeling about the error and that he was ‘thrilled’ that Moonlight had won the top prize.

“Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won. I know the director [Barry Jenkins] … I’ve worked with them before,” he said.

“It’s such a ground-breaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”

The entire La La Land cast and crew flooded the stage during last month’s awards ceremony when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty read out the name of their film from the wrong card.
