Ryan Murphy reveals his least favourite AHS season

From Digital Spy

With six seasons of American Horror Story under his belt and three more on the way, Ryan Murphy is a true expect at thinking up new and entertaining ways to both terrify and gross us out.

And with so many seasons, it's to be expected that one theme sticks out as the show creator's least favourite season - and to be honest, the answer probably won't surprise you.

Talking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Murphy singled out AHS's fourth season as the one that doesn't quite live up to the others in his mind.

"Season 4, Freak Show," he replied when asked. "Because it was so hard for me to make."

It's an answer that pretty much matches our own in terms of ranking the American Horror Story seasons from best to worst - although we were less taken with the unnecessary focus on Lady Gaga and the confused storytelling in season five's Hotel.

But rather than it being hard to make, we thought Freak Show was a little hard to watch - what with the gore, the all-over-the-place storytelling and the random musical numbers.

American Horror Story's latest season, My Roanoke Nightmare, had no such issues though, and it seems Murphy is already looking to follow up his sixth-season success with something equally as scary and horrifying, as he officially confirmed season seven will be about the 2016 presidential election.

"I don't have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through," Murphy added on Watch What Happens Live. "I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."

We know Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be back for the new run - and we're very intrigued to know how Murphy will manage to link the events of the election to Freak Show.

American Horror Story is expected to return to FX in the US later this year. FOX airs the show in the UK.
