Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds issued a classy message to his Birmingham City counterpart Tom Brady after their teams' heated clash in League One.

League leaders Wrexham visited the Midlands on Monday night in the hope of further bolstering their position at the top of the table.

And it looked to be going the Welsh side's way when Jack Marriott opened the scoring on three minutes. However, Blues struck back through mega-bucks signing Jay Stansfield, who netted a brace either side of the break.

Birmingham then made sure of the win thanks to a stunning strike from Tomoki Iwata, which saw Brady's side claim a 3-1 win and the bragging rights.

But the game was not without its ugly moments. Indeed, the end of the match descended into chaos after Paul Mullin was fouled by Alex Cochrane. The flashpoint sparked a mass brawl involving all 20 outfield players, before the camera panned to Brady who was clapping during the incident.

James McClean, Wrexham's captain, was at the centre of the melee, which saw five yellow cards brandished by the referee including one shown to Krystian Bielik. Blues skipper Bielik was later sent off after a poor challenge on Andy Cannon, which saw the hosts reduced to 10 men.

After McClean was substituted, he was goaded by the crowd and even caught a drink which had been thrown at him from the stands. The Irishman proceeded to rile the home fans up with his response as he walked back towards the Wrexham dugout.

After the game, though, Reynolds offered a typically magnanimous response, writing on social media: "Tough loss to a good club. Congrats @bcfc, @tombrady on the win. Lots of season yet to go.

"Up The Town. Now and forever."

Despite the defeat, Wrexham, who were watched by fellow co-owner and Hollywood star Rob McElhenney on Monday night, remain top of the league on goal difference. They face Crawley next up on Saturday.
