Ryan Reynolds has said seeing Wrexham AFC draw with Sheffield United is "one of the most exciting things I’ve EVER seen".

The Deadpool star and father-of-three bought the National League football club in November 2020 and has called the team's tie with the Championship team in their latest FA Cup match "impossible".

Reynolds, 46, said: "When @RMcElhenney and I got into this it all felt so impossible. But impossible is @Wrexham_AFC ’s favourite colour. That was one of the most exciting things I’ve EVER seen. Thank you each and every Wrexham supporter who came out and aimed your heart at that pitch tonight."

The Free Guy star admitted watching his team play had become incredibly tense, telling the BBC ahead of the match: "I’m now so much in love with this sport that I actually hate it. Each match I’m pacing around like a caged lion.”

His wife Blake Lively joked on social media: “I bought espn+ today. Just to watch my husband experience crippling anxiety live. Worth it.”

She later added: “If you’re not watching this insane [Wrexham] game right now you’re missing out on these vibes, They’re playing a team 3 leagues higher. And currently winning. Life makes no sense.”

The draw comes after Wrexham AFC's three victory's in the latest FA Cup tournament, against Oldham, Farnborough and Coventry City.

They will now play Sheffield United in a rematch on Tuesday, 7 February, to decide which team goes through to the fifth round of the FA Cup 20/23.

When Reynolds bought the Welsh soccer team with fellow actor and friend Rob McElhenney – star of US sitcom It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia – the club was placed eighth in the National League, the fifth tier of UK football.

Sheffield United are in the second tier and recent relegation from the Premier League.

Wrexham is now placed second in the National League.

Reynolds and McElhenney's take over of the club and its subsequent fortunes was depicted in the Disney+ docuseries Welcome to Wrexham last year.
