Ryanair has dismissed a claim it has axed soap from its plane toilets as part of a cost-cutting measure.

The low cost airline has been accused of removing hand soap, with cabin crew reportedly telling air passengers the luxury is no longer considered essential.

According to the Sun, recent passengers have complained of finding no soap to clean their hands with while on short-haul flights.

On Twitter, Ian Harman moaned of a “disgusting” lack of soap on his flight back from Slovakia while other passengers said plane staff confirmed no soap was on board.

Flyer Kay Leedham-Green claimed on Twitter an air hostess told her: “We no longer stock the toilets with soap.”

Alan Woodward, 71, who flew back to the UK from Spain with wife Wendy, 64, told the Sun newspaper: “It’s frightening that people are expected to use the toilet and not wash their hands properly.

“One stewardess told me she now brings her own hand soap to work.

“If it was a restaurant or a café, it would be shut down,” added the pensioner.

But the budget carrier shut down the claims, calling them “nonsense”. A spokesperson told the Sun: “All our aircraft carry soap which is replenished as required.”

Last month passengers with Ryanair were told they will only be allowed to carry one item of hand luggage on board in future in a bid to crack down on delays.

Holidaymakers who have not booked a priority ticket will be restricted to a small bag such as a handbag or laptop bag from November 1.
