Ryanair Leaves Cheap Flight Fans Cringing With EU Email Gaffe

An attempt by Ryanair to get all organised ahead of the EU referendum results has spectacularly backfired.

The budget airline seems to have missed the blanket media coverage rearding Britain’s decision to leave Europe, instead emailing its mailing list with news of a flash sale - with a cringe-making subject line.

“Celebrate remaining in Europe with 1 million seats from £9.99”, to be precise.

The email was posted ahead of the official announcement of victory for the Leave campaign, prompting one confused Twitter user to ask: “does Ryanair air know something we don’t?”

Another added: “Ryanair, a bit premature.”

When the result was confirmed, a bemused poster wrote: “Did not expect that result! Nor, I think, did Ryanair.”

Another poster said: “Someone at Ryanair needs to turn their telly on.”

Even ex-Apprentice star Luisa Zissman got in on the act, saying: “Just got this from @Ryanair think they may be a bit confused over the result…”

For some it was the final insult, however: “Usually love #Ryanair’s sloppiness but this just stings this morning,” and “Salt right in the wound Ryanair thanks. Make that ticket one way.”

One Twitter user thought it was all part of a cunning plan on behalf on Ryanair, saying: “Publicity stunt… Worked a treat got u tweeting about it!!”

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “It’s a good job we’re better at running an airline than political campaigns.

"Britons are booking our £9.99 seats in record numbers in what will be the last big seat sale of its kind, as they look to flee a country which will be run by Boris, Gove and Farage.”
