Justin Rose is out of the running to win the European Tour’s Race to Dubai after deciding to skip the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

While it was a long shot, needing a win and Ryder Cup hero Francesco Molinari to finish outside the top 40, Rose was still in with a chance of claiming the No.1 spot on the European Tour, having won the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup in September.

Rose’s Ryder Cup teammate Paul Casey has also decided to avoid the tournament, won last year by Jon Rahm.

Europe’s ten other stars from Le Golf National are in the field for the final event of the season, with captain Thomas Bjorn also playing.

Rose, 38, is currently No.2 in the world and has one win on the European Tour this season, the Turkish Airlines Open earlier this month.

Speaking after his victory, the Englishman said: "I have a lot going on the next couple weeks, so it [playing in Dubai] would be a big shift for me.

"It [why he isn't playing] might become apparent next year, but there are things that I need to kind of get figured out."
