Rylan Clark has disclosed that he was "sacked" from his initial role as a hair colourist after he asked for an autograph from Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell.

The 35 year old, who now works as a Radio 2 DJ, was over the moon when his favourite member of the iconic '90s group entered the London salon where he worked. Rylan, a self-confessed "massive fan" of the band, recounted on RTE's Late Late Show how he used to impersonate Ginger Spice during his school days.

This led him to seize the moment and request an autograph from Geri, which resulted in his manager firing him immediately.

In conversation with Patrick Kielty, Rylan shared: "On one of my first ever jobs as a trainee, Geri walks in and I was like `I can't breathe! ' and she was having her hair done and I brought her a coffee and said `I'm so sorry, can I have your autograph? ' and she was like, `absolutely! ' Loveliest woman ever."

He continued, revealing the aftermath: "She signed her autograph and left, didn't complain or anything, but my manager was an a******* and he sacked me on the spot, saying you never ask a client for their autograph."

Rylan concluded with a triumphant note: "Anyway, he sacked me and fast forward to now and Geri is one of my good friends and I have sleepovers at her house so f*** you! ".

Rylan's journey to stardom began with his appearance on the X Factor in 2012, and he quickly ascended to greater fame by winning Celebrity Big Brother, besting competitors including Neil "Razor" Ruddock, Claire Richards, Ryan Moloney, and Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.

Following this, he became a part of Big Brother's Bit on The Side, a sister show to the main series, and later joined This Morning as a gossip correspondent. Since 2019, he has been hosting a Saturday show on Radio 2, taking over from Zoe Ball.

He made an appearance on the Late Late Show to plug his latest Paramount+ TV venture, Dating Naked. The show features single individuals stripping down in their quest for love in a South American villa.
