Rylan 'sacked' from first job for asking Spice Girls star one question
Rylan Clark has shared a hilarious story about how he was "sacked" from his first job for asking a Spice Girl for her autograph.
The 35 year old, who was working for a hair colourist in a London salon at the time, couldn't resist when his favourite member of the iconic 90s band, Geri Halliwell, walked in.
Speaking on RTE's Late Late Show, Rylan revealed that he was a "massive fan" and used to pretend to be Ginger Spice during his school days.
However, his excitement led to him losing his job after he asked Geri for her autograph, much to the annoyance of his manager.
Speaking to Patrick Kielty, he said: “On one of my first ever jobs as a trainee, Geri walks in and I was like `I can’t breathe!’ and she was having her hair done and I brought her a coffee and said `I’m so sorry, can I have your autograph?’ and she was like, `absolutely!’ Loveliest woman ever.
"She signed her autograph and left, didn’t complain or anything, but my manager was an a******* and he sacked me on the spot, saying you never ask a client for their autograph.
"Anyway, he sacked me and fast forward to now and Geri is one of my good friends and I have sleepovers at her house so f*** you!"
Despite this setback, Rylan went on to become good friends with Geri and even enjoys sleepovers at her house. The TV presenter shot to fame on the X Factor in 2012 and later won Celebrity Big Brother.
He later joined Big Brother's Bit on The Side, a companion show to the series, before moving on to This Morning as a gossip reporter. Since 2019, he has been hosting a Radio 2 show on Saturdays, taking over from Zoe Ball.
He made an appearance on the Late Late Show to promote his latest Paramount+ TV show, Dating Naked. The show features single individuals stripping down in their quest for love in a South American villa.
