Sabrina the Teenage Witch is getting a horror reboot from Riverdale team

A “dark occult” remake of Sabrina the Teenage Witch is in the works.

According to reports, a new one-hour drama based on the character is being developed by Warner Bros Television and The CW - the US network behind Gossip Girl and Arrow - as a companion piece to popular murder mystery series Riverdale which airs in the UK on Netflix.

The character of Sabrina Spellman was made famous by Melissa Joan Hart who starred in the sitcom adaptation of the Archie Comics franchise for seven seasons from 1996 to 2003.

Reports state the potential series would be a darker take on the character tonally in line with horror classics such as The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby.

Based on the 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' series, the dramatisaton would see the character “wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

Riverdale's executive producers - Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater - will join forces for the reimagining.
