‘Sack him’: Piers Morgan slammed for ‘uncomfortable’ #MeToo joke as he tries to hug Susanna Reid

Piers Morgan was branded a hypocrite for ‘mocking’ the #MeToo movement as he tried to coerce Susanna Reid into hugging him on Good Morning Britain.

The controversial TV presenter, 52, read out a tweet from Bradley Walsh who joked that Morgan and Reid reminded him of Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd’s characters in Moonlighting.

Morgan prompted Reid to re-enact a scene after a picture of the actors hugging flashed up on screen.

“Come on, come on, you know you want to,” he said. “Come on, dangle your little arm around me, you know you want to. We’ve got to try and recreate it, come on.”

He continued: “You’re allowed to. I’m not going to ‘#MeToo’ you! Come on. You’re allowed to touch me in the workplace, come on.”

A shocked Reid replied: “It’s about whether I want to, not whether you allow me to. I don’t want to put my arm around you.”

Not willing to back down he said: “Of course you want to. You couldn’t have made your feelings any clearer.”

His comments sparked a backlash online with many calling for him to apologise for making light of a movement which aims to raise awareness of sexual assault and harassment in the workplace.

Others begged for show bosses to sack him with one tweeting: “Isn't @piersmorgan trying to persuade Suzanna Reid to touch him classed as sexual harassment in the work place? #timesup #metoo #sackpiersmorgan.”

Another tweeted: “Piers Morgan just now on trying to get Susanna Reid to put her arm round him: ‘come on, I’m not going to #metoo you’. This guy is still on TV? What the actual f***? #p***take.”
