Sacramento Fire Rescuers Lasso Deer Stuck in Canal

Sacramento, California, firefighters saved two deer who were trapped in the Folsom South Canal on Tuesday, October 9.

The deer, a buck and a doe, were spotted swimming in the Folsom South Canal near Tributary Point, and were seen thrashing in the water.

According to a CBS News report, quoting fire department spokesman Chris Vestal, deer will often jump into the canal to quickly travel several miles but then find themselves unable to escape due to the steep sides.

This footage shows one of the rescuers using a lasso to catch the doe and pull her to safety.

The doe and buck were both safely removed from the canal and are in the care of California State Parks personnel. Credit: Metro Fire of Sacramento via Storyful
