Sainsbury's Nectar card holders could be handed a cool £220 cashback - in a major boost for the Christmas season. If you're a new American Express Nectar Credit Cardmember, you can collect 20,000 Nectar points when you apply for the American Express Nectar Credit Card and spend £2,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership.

You can collect a minimum of 3 point when you shop using your Credit Card and use Nectar at a Nectar partner, 2 points for every £1 spent on your Credit Card everywhere else and if you recommend to a friend you’ll receive 5,000 bonus points, once they’re approved.

You can also bag 3,000 bonus points when your Supplementary Card application is approved. On average, Cardmembers collect 17x more points compared to a regular Nectar collector, according to American Express, who has encouraged customers to sign up.

The figures are based on annual fee of £30 (£0 in the first year) and assumed limit of £1,200. Interest rates for purchases 31.0% p.a.variable. Your interest rates will change in line with the Bank of England base rate. The reward for spending £1,000 a month over a year with the card would be 44,000 points - or £220, including the introductory bonus.

If you do spend on a credit card make sure to pay off the balance in full each month. 20,000 points works out at at least £100 off your shopping with Sainsbury's, Argos, Eurostar and Caffè Nero. Or, convert to Avios with British Airways.

The annual Card fee is £30. You will receive the first year of Cardmembership with £0 annual fee. From year two of your membership, a £30 annual fee will automatically be charged to your Account on or after the anniversary of your Account opening date. The first year fee waiver is only available to new American Express Nectar Credit Cardmembers.

You can save even more with “Your Nectar Prices” on the Nectar app. These are personalised discounts which you can get when you shop online, or by downloading the Smartshop app or using a handset in store. Sainsbury’s reckons you could save as much as £145 a year - which when added to £220, could give you £365.
