A major supermarket chain is recalling one of its popular meat products over concerns it may contain an illness-causing bacteria.

Sainsbury's has recalled its Taste the Difference Spanish Chorizo Iberico Ring after discovering it may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

In rare cases, Listeriosis can be severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one-month-old and people with weakened immune systems.

The store has asked that customers not eat if bought and return it to a store where a full refund will be given.
