Sainsbury’s Unveil Their ‘Mog The Cat’ Christmas Advert - But How Does It Compare To John Lewis?

If you’re not quite feeling the Christmassy spirit yet, you might want feel a sudden urge to wrap yourself in tinsel and order a turkey sub after seeing Sainsbury’s Christmas advert - Mog the cat.

Stepping up to the plate in the annual Christmas advert battle, which has already seen us sob at John Lewis’ ‘Man On The Moon’, Sainsbury’s have gone for something heart-warming, funny and quite frankly adorable.

In fact, could it be one of the cutest Christmas adverts ever?

The advert revives Judith Kerr’s Mog, the cat that won her way into our hearts in our childhood.

Like us, Mog is a calamity in the kitchen, having a total nightmare before Christmas, knocking things over, smashing things, and eventually accidentally setting the Christmas tree on fire, turning it to a pile of ash.

Luckily though, she accidentally dials the fire brigade during her trail of destruction, saving the day as the firemen arrive to sort things out.

The family’s neighbours then join forces to help get the house back to rights before sharing their Christmas to make sure everyone has a very merry day.

Warms your heart like a flaming Christmas pudding, right?

Twitter users have been comparing Sainsbury’s effort to John Lewis’ offering, with many deciding that Mog was the winner of the Christmas adverts this year.

Both share an important message - one reminding us that Christmas is for sharing and the other about how many elderly people can go days without speaking to anyone - and both are supporting charities, with JL helping Age UK and Sainsbury’s helping Save the Children.

However, while John Lewis went for something tear-jerking with a glorious cover of a classic track, Sainsbury’s went for the cute and the nostalgia factor - and it seems to have won over Twitter users.
