Sam Smith pulled out of his iHeartRadio performance in Las Vegas yesterday (September 21) due to "unforeseen circumstances" that occurred during his rehearsal.

Host Ryan Seacrest made the announcement just minutes before the 'Promises' singer was due to start his set.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances which transpired after his rehearsal, it became clear that Sam Smith would unfortunately not be able to perform tonight," Seacrest said.

"We love Sam. Sam has been part of our iHeart family for many, many years and we look forward to seeing him really soon."

Sam then posted on Twitter to apologise to fans for not being able to perform.

Later, he updated fans again and revealed he had a "scare" that forced him to see his voice doctor, but he is on the mend now.

"Hello beautiful people. Thank you for your lovely messages. Just been to see my voice doctor in Boston after last night's scare in Vegas, everything is luckily ok but I need to rest it this week in preparation for the start of Asia tour," he said.

"I'm sorry everyone. All my love, Sam xx."

Artists booked to perform over the two-day festival, which continues today, include Justin Timberlake, Fleetwood Mac, Childish Gambino, Jack White, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Imagine Dragons, Jason Aldean, Shawn Mendes, Luke Bryan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Panic! At The Disco, Kelly Clarkson, Kygo, Rae Sremmurd and Logic.
