Yahoo News Sam Smith responds to claims he 'fat-shamed' woman
Sam Smith has responded after being accused of fat-shaming a holiday goer.
The 'Stay With Me' singer posted a video on his Instagram story where he zoomed in on a woman's breakfast.
His partner, 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, can be seen in the clip pulling a face.
Sam captioned the video: "Good going".
Lauren Brooks and her friends were eating breakfast in a Californian cafe, with the London office worker saying how she felt about seeing herself on Sam's social media.
"It seems as if he is fat-shaming me for having such a big breakfast," she told The Daily Star.
"He has 9.5million followers – and anyone who knew me and followed him would recognise me right away. Imagine if I was a girl who was even slightly insecure about her weight.
"To have a celeb mock her for eating a meal would be horrendous."
Sam's representative spoke exclusively to Digital Spy, adding: "Sam posted because he was jealous of her fabulous breakfast."
In the past, Sam has undergone a dramatic weight transformation and shed three stone.
After starting a new regime with nutritional therapist Amelia Freer, he shed a stone in two weeks.
Discussing his weight battle, he said to CBS that he'd cut gluten, dairy and refined sugar out of his diet and was snacking on herb-infused ice cubes.
"I love food so it's a constant battle," he said. "It's always going to be a battle but I'm trying my best.
"I've just not eaten like a pig anymore – that's what I'm doing, basically."
