A same-sex penguin couple recently became proud first-time parents at an aquarium in Valencia, Spain.
Oceanografic Valencia announced on August 17 that penguins Electra and Viola had welcomed a chick after they incubated and hatched an “adopted” egg.
According to a blog post by Oceanografic, caregivers noticed that the pair showed signs of preparing to reproduce, such as building a nest out of stones, and decided to take a fertile egg from another couple to give to them.
