Samsung Galaxy S5 outsells the S4 by double on its first day

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is an official success as it's sold double the number of handsets the Galaxy S4 did on its first day.

According to Phones 4u the number of Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets sold on the day of release, 11 April, was a record. Pre-registration for the handset reached over 10,000 ahead of the pre-order launch. The pre-orders of the S5 outnumbered those of the S4 "significantly", says Phones 4u.

The Samsung Galaxy S5, with fingerprint reader and heart rate sensor, was an interesting release as some said the extras were unnecessary. It would seem the new features, along with an impressive 1080p screen and fast Snapdragon 801 innards were enough to woo buyers.

Carphone Warehouse also reports record breaking sales: "Sales for the new Samsung smartphone are up 150 per cent since launch day versus sales for the Samsung Galaxy S4 over the same period last year."

Scott Hooton, chief marketing officer at Phones 4u said: "We’re incredibly pleased with the success it’s had at Phones 4u in such a short space of time already, with sales of the new smartphone being double those seen for the Galaxy S4 on its launch day last year."
