Samuel L Jackson names his five favourite film roles

Samuel L Jackson has done the impossible – whittled down his 100 plus screen credits to a handful of favourites.

The actor, who recently turned 70, was appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when the US host asked if he could name some of his personal favourite roles.

“Just five?” the actor asked, before accepting the challenge.

Straight off the bat, Jackson went with one of his current characters – Nick Fury – to applause from the crowd.

This year will see Jackson reprise the role of Fury a further two times in the Marvel films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Following these films, Jackson’s overall tally will sit at nine, including uncredited cameos.

Next, Jackson combined his roles in Quentin Tarantino films Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Django Unchained: Jules Winnfield, Ordell Robbie and Stephen.

“They’re all cool characters who have their own things going for them and I’d hate to tear them apart,” he said.

In third spot was Mace Windu, the character whom he played in the Star Wars prequels from 1999 to 2005.

Jackson was so excited to name his favourite role that he forgot to name a second – but the victor was Mitch Hennesy who he played in 1996 thriller, The Long Kiss Goodnight.

“I love that movie, man,” the actor exclaimed, adding: “I had such a good time with Geena Davis.”

Jackson will next be seen in M Night Shyamalan sequel Glass, which sees him reprises the role of his character last seen in 2000’s Unbreakable.
