San Francisco Bridge Shut After Storm Damage

A bridge in San Francisco was shut on Tuesday, March 21, after being damaged by loose barges during a storm, according to local news reports.

The San Francisco Fire Department said the 3rd street bridge was damaged when industrial barges came loose and began hitting the structure. They urged people to avoid the area.

Footage from Terri Niles shows the view from her car as she sat in traffic on 3rd street, with a barge slamming into the bridge and splashing water over the railings.

The National Weather Service said that wind gusts reached 70 mph on Tuesday across the Bay Area and Central Coast, with power outages, flooding, and shallow landslides also observed. Credit: Terri Niles via Storyful
