Sandi Toksvig is ‘absolutely confident’ that Great British Bake Off co-host Noel Fielding is the best man for the job, revealing that the pair have been friends for a while.

The comedian and presenter said that she ‘loves’ the Mighty Boosh star and knows that he is a ‘huge fan’ of the baking contest, which is moving to Channel 4 this year.

While many fans were left scratching their heads at the seemingly unusual pairing of the presenting duo, Toksvig insists that they will bring the ‘same level of love’.

“He is a huge fan of the show. I'm absolutely confident he will bring the same level of love that I'll bring to it. That's all you can do, right?” she told the Telegraph.

“I love him. We're good friends. He's going to dress better than me, but other than that we're all right. And I imagine he has more eyeliner than I do.”

She added: “But you know, it's about the bakers and I'm looking forward to giving them the best care that I can.”

Much-loved Bake Off hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc stepped down from their roles after it was revealed that Love Productions had sold the format to Channel 4.

Mary Berry also refused to continue with the show after the final BBC series and is being replaced with Prue Leith.

Paul Hollywood will remain in his role, recently admitting that he was ‘really excited’ about the new line-up.

“When I heard the names read out, because I’m the same as everybody else, I was really excited,” he said on Loose Women.

“I did know about Prue, but I didn’t know about the others at all. It’s perfect, I’m really, really excited.”
