Former Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh has opened up about whether she would return to the show... and we're afraid the prognosis is not good.

The actress played Dr Christina Yang for 10 seasons on the show until 2014, and many fans are keen to see her make a comeback.

However, when quizzed on any future plans to feature in the show, Oh told Access Hollywood: "At this point... No, I don't think so."

She was then pressed on if she'd consider a return for whenever the drama eventually airs its series finale, revealing that she had conversed with creator Shonda Rhimes on the subject. "I just don't know. It would have to feel right."

The actress did reflect positively on her Grey's Anatomy experience and what it means to fans, saying: "As an actor, as an artist, it's a full life that one has.

"I look back to that time, which is extremely important and deeply meaningful to me, and it means a lot to me that a whole generation, a new generation of fans are discovering the show. So it means a lot."

Co-star Kevin McKidd previously suggested that Oh could make a return one day, telling Digital Spy: "I'd love it if she came back. I think she might eventually for fun, for maybe a couple of episodes. I don't think she'd come back for anything long term, but who the hell knows?"

Meanwhile, the ABC show was recently renewed for a 14th season alongside other Shondaland dramas Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.

Reports also suggest that the broadcaster has reached a deal to bring back the core cast - including Ellen Pompeo - for the next season.

Grey's Anatomy airs on ABC.
