Summer is here, and what better way to enjoy the sunshine than to have a family day out at the beach? One beach in North Wales, just three and a half hours from Coventry is Llanbedrog known as the 'most sheltered beach'.

The beach, set on the Llyn peninsula is known for its colourful beach huts and has a 'wonderful stretch of sand' enjoyed by many. It has great views over Cardigan Bay, alongside an adjacent wooded and rocky landscape that makes it a "real gem" of Llyn.

The sloping sands provide a good base for a family day out at the seaside, with the water providing plenty of room for the children to paddle. The beach huts and chalets have stood on the beach since Victorian times, and still provide colour and brightness, even on a cloudy day, BirminghamLive reports.

The mile-long beach is south-facing, which makes it a suntrap that's ideal for windsurfing, family swimming, and kayaking. Coastal birds can also be seen proving the expanse of uncovered sand at low tide. National Trust says you can hear the "distinctive" bird song of oystercatchers and curlew who search for food in the sands.

The beach is situated between the well-known seaside resorts of Abersoch and Pwllheli. There's also a cafe, shop, and toilets plus a National Trust-run car park where you find family adventure packs for bug-hunting, games, and trails. Pups can also enjoy the dog-friendly beach, but they just have to be on leads from April to the end of September.

In addition, there are lots of walks to enjoy within the area. You can try the walk from Mynydd Tir y Cwnwd to reach the iconic Llanbedrog tin man sculpture on the cliffside. The coastal paths go through the woodlands and heathland on the headland, offering spectacular views over Cardigan Bay.

There's also the possibility to rent a coloured beach hut for one day or a week between April and September.
