Santa Claus made a rather unusual entry to Kirkcudbright on Sunday.

Instead of arriving by boat from Ross Island as he usually does, he took a rocket from Lapland and landed in the Planetarium in Kirkcudbright before travelling by sleigh to the Information Centre in the Harbour Square where a crowd of children were waiting patiently to see him.

The event was organised by Greyfriars Church and the Summer Festivities and among the entertainment on offer were various stalls, baking, bric-a-brac, Julie Middleton’s cards, a bottle stall, guess the weight of the cake and a raffle, ending the day with carol singing in the church.

The ladies of the Inner Wheel provided hot drinks including mulled wine and juice with mince pies and shortbread biscuits from Greyfriars House, who are supporting the KBT Youth Project.

Rev Alison Hudson, said: “I am so pleased in my first year in charge of Greyfriars and St Mary’s Gatehouse of Fleet that the sun shone after all the rain and we had a successful event.”
