Sarah Brightman's Trip To Space Called Off

Sarah Brightman says she has postponed her trip to the International Space Station.

The British singer spent up to 16 hours a day training in Star City near Moscow and was due to blast off in a Russian Soyuz rocket on a tourist flight on 1 September.

However, a statement on Brightman's Facebook page said her plans had changed for "personal family reasons".

It suggested she would pursue a "future spaceflight opportunity" but no date was given.

The cost of her planned adventure in space has been estimated at $50m (£30m).

Eric Anderson, co-founder and chairman of Space Adventures, which was organising the trip, said on the Facebook statement: "Since 2012, Sarah has shared her story of a lifelong dream to fly to space.

"Her international fame as the world's best-selling soprano has enabled her message to circle the globe, inspiring others to pursue their own dreams.

"We've seen first-hand her dedication to every aspect of her spaceflight training and to date, has passed all of her training and medical tests. We applaud her determination and we'll continue to support her as she pursues a future spaceflight opportunity."

In March the 54-year-old soprano revealed she was working with her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber to create a song to sing in space.

Brightman previously admitted travelling in space seemed "unrealistic and crazy", but said watching the first moon landing when she was nine was "a pivotal moment" in her life.

She said: "It actually changed my perception about life. Suddenly my mind opened."
