Sarah Jessica Parker has launched a bridal line and it's very Sex and the City

Carrie Bradshaw’s marriage to Mr Big took two attempts.

In the first, high-gloss, high-pressure wedding attempt, Carrie arrives at the New York City library in an OTT ruched, voluminous Vivienne Westwood gown with a large blue bird on her head, only to become a jilted bride.

The second time around, Mr Big proposes by slipping a blue Manolo on Carrie’s foot, and the modern couple seal the deal at City Hall, Carrie wearing said Manolos and a no-brand suit she picked up at a vintage shop.

Is it a coincidence then that Sarah Jessica Parker’s first bridal line should be an ultra-pared-back, modern edit of jumpsuits, ankle boots and bodysuits? We think not.

Designed in collaboration with American online shopping site Gilt, the ten-piece collection ranges in price from £2,398 for a church-ready gown to £296 for a bowback bodysuit, and is designed to cater for brides throughout the wedding process; from hen night through to wedding reception. The colour palette includes traditional bridal white and black, in addition to blush, poppy, light grey and blue.

The launch comes three years after the actress-turned-designer launched her first collection of bridal shoes with her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker range.

“We kept having these wonderful women of all ages and backgrounds and sizes and shapes, they kept telling us they were buying for their wedding and they were not buying what would be conventionally thought of as a bridal shoe,” Parker tells WWD. “We recognized that there was this space where brides were looking for something that felt different, that suggested who they were. So we were encouraged to create a bridal collection within our collection.”

There are a few incredibly glam pieces – think a white, floor-length feathered gown and a copy of those aforementioned blue Manolos – but overall it’s a super practical edit of jumpsuits, bodysuits and simple summery dresses that will get much more than a one day wear.

“Collaborating with Gilt on my first bridal ready-to-wear collection was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Sarah Jessica Parker says in a statement.

“The team there is brilliant and allowed me to be imaginative and take risks as I was designing for the non-traditional bride. It has been quite fun to play around with colors, fabrics and details to create unique pieces for all kinds of brides."

As part of the launch, Gilt is also selling 15 exclusive styles from the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker footwear line. Well known silhouettes, including the Cosette and Fawn, will come in exclusive colourways and heel heights.
