Sarah Paulson Calls Late Friend Matthew Perry 'One of the Most Generous People on the Planet'
Paulson starred with Perry, who died unexpectedly of an apparent drowning on Oct. 28, in Aaron Sorkin's 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' from 2006 to 2007
Sarah Paulson has warm memories of Matthew Perry.
The American Horror Story actress — who starred alongside Perry in Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip — opened up about how she will remember the actor. "I just remember him as one of the most generous people on the planet," Paulson, 48, said while appearing on The View.
Paulson then recalled how Perry once went the extra mile to help her land the gig on the NBC drama series, which ran for one season from 2006 to 2007.
"I was at a particular place in my career where I needed that job very desperately and he, because of his friendship with Amanda Peet, who was my best friend at the time, who was also on the show, they had done a movie together called The Whole Nine Yards," she explained. "So he asked me to meet him in the parking lot for my final audition, and I got in his car and he ran the whole scene with me multiple times so that I could have a leg up on the other performer. And I did get the job! So, I sort of credit him with taking that extra time, and he absolutely did not need to do that."

Further praising his character, Paulson said the late actor "was just the kind of person that if you made him laugh or if you made him smile, you felt like you had really arrived."
"I had the great pleasure of making him laugh a couple of times and it made me feel really good," she added. "He's a wonderful guy."
Tuesday's episode of The View wasn't the first time Paulson shared insight into her bond with Perry. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2021, the Ocean's 8 actress hilariously recalled an awkward experience she had with Perry at a "make-out party" years prior.
"I didn't see anyone make out, but there was a hat with names in it and you were supposed to make out with whomever you pulled out of the hat," she recalled. "And Matthew Perry pulled my name out of the hat and then promptly left the room."

Perry died at age 54 on Oct. 28. His cause of death is still currently pending, but no foul play is expected.
Shortly after the Friends star's death, tributes poured in from many across the entertainment industry, including Perry and Paulson's Studio 60 colleague Timothy Busfield.
"Matty Perry was a gem. I had the great, good fortune to act with and also direct him on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," Busfield said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. "He was a good, good man and a sweet, funny soul who will be missed, desperately. Not only by his millions of devoted fans, but by those co-workers and friends who he made crumble to the floor with his fast and searing wit. He told me that he once spent an entire evening entertaining a famous director. Taking him to one club after another, thinking to himself 'he really likes me, maybe he'll hire me.'"
Added Busfield, "It wasn’t until the following morning, after a great night, that he discovered it wasn't the famous director at all. He was just some guy. He told that story on himself. That's what kind of man he was. Happy Trails, brother. I'll miss you."

Bradley Whitford, who also starred in the series, shared a throwback video of the pair joking around together during a press interview for the show. He also raved about Perry's "huge, open heart and a pyrotechnical, joyous brain."
"I think the most beautiful parts of Matt made him the most vulnerable to the monster that he would have to fight for the rest of his life," he wrote, referencing Perry's longtime battle with addiction. "His battle was heroic. They don’t have award shows for that. They should."
"Matt was full of contradictions. He was hilariously self deprecating and insecure and wildly self confident. He was a fountain of light with a huge capacity for darkness. He was profoundly blessed and terribly cursed," he continued. "I want his parents to know that Matt was kind. Not just to his costar. To everyone."
