Sarah Storey has been photographed for the first time with her Paralympic gold medals

Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey has been photographed for the first time with her record-breaking gold medal haul in an exclusive photoshoot with her three-year-old daughter Louisa and husband Barney in the new edition of HELLO! magazine.

"They are kept at a secret location," Sarah tells the magazine of her 14 gold medals including the three she won in Rio (which make her Britain's most successful ever female Paralympic athlete) plus the three gold medals of her husband Barney (a sighted pilot for blind and partially sighted cyclists) which takes the family tally to 17. "We don’t have them on display at home."

Of her success she reveals, "It hasn’t sunk in yet" but says that like all families it is a balancing act.

"We are a team. Barney does the lion's share of the childcare while I am training. But I don't think mums get nearly enough credit for the balancing act they do, especially now when we are expected to do everything all the time. I'm an athlete mum. But most mums are athletes and they don't realise. We are all athletes in different ways."

Dame Sarah, 38, who was born without a functioning left hand tells HELLO!, “Nobody treated me any differently. Every child has to learn how to walk, play and catch a ball. You might have a different technique but you are still learning the same skills."
