Satellite Imagery Shows Plumes of Smoke Rising From Australian Bushfires

Satellite imagery posted to the Facebook page of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service on Monday, September 9, shows plumes of smoke rising from record-breaking bushfires on in New South Wales and Queensland.

The fires destroyed the heritage-listed Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington National Park, according to news.com.au, and authorities said that the danger from bushfires had never been so severe so early in spring.

Eighty-seven fires were reported to be raging in Queensland on Monday, according to ABC Australia. In New South Wales, meanwhile, authorities reported 64 ongoing fires, with 28 uncontained. Credit: NSW RFS via Storyful
